About us

Lafayette Musicians...
and the Sacred music starts!

Lafayette Musicians is a classical music orchestra and choir, composed of professional instrumentalists and singers. Created in 2022, their name honors the Marquis de la Lafayette, a French hero of the American Revolution, who was the only French person awarded honorary citizenship of the United States of America exactly 20 years ago.

Led by the French conductor Matthieu du Motier, the orchestra plays a musical repertoire focused on sacred music. With a particular zoom on early music, which is a specialty of its conductor. With a strong desire of original music restitution, musicians often playing on historic instruments.

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States, the Lafayette Musicians invite you to an exceptional afternoon of music, faith, and celebration.

Inspired by our desire to share our Faith through the beauty and power of music, we will open the concert with Felix Mendelssohn’s magnificent sacred work, Hear My Prayer. Its celebrated “O for the Wings of a Dove” will feature the Lafayette Musicians Children’s Choir, bringing together the purity of young voices and the richness of Mendelssohn’s deeply spiritual music.

The celebration will then continue with one of the great masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire: Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, From the New World.

Written during Dvořák’s years in America, the New World Symphony remains one of the most powerful examples of the fascination that American musical traditions inspired in a great European composer of the nineteenth century. From its unforgettable melodies to its thrilling final movement, Dvořák created a work that bridges the Old World and the New — making it a particularly meaningful choice for this historic American anniversary.

This will be the Lafayette Musicians’ most ambitious and spectacular concert of 2026, bringing together orchestra, choir, and children’s voices for an unforgettable musical celebration.

Join us as we celebrate 250 years of the United States of America through faith, music, and the joy of coming together.

About the Lafayette Musicians

Donations

Lafayette Musicians need funding to be able to make the great concerts we have planned, a reality. As a 501 (c) 3 non profit organisation, every donation will provide  a tax exemption receipt. These donations will be used of course for the musicians payment, but also to cover logistics surrounding the concerts, including the writing and printing of booklets designed to help the audience to better understand the world of sacred music and the incredible links to Faith.

The booklets

At every concert, you will receive a booklet containing translations and explanations of the musical pieces being performed. Using the booklet, you can deepen your understanding of the words being sung, the context they were written in, and their spiritual scope.
